Hello! Thank you for taking the time to stop by and visit.

As to the more mundane things:

I hold degrees from Santa Rosa Junior College, Empire Business College, and Rancho Cotate High School.  I have taken various university courses from Sonoma State University in art and graphic design.

I almost settled on art as a major but wanted to prove myself in a science-oriented field -- so I majored in Geology (with calculus and chemistry). If anything, the science background has served me well in gaining a better understanding of the forces of nature from a structural point of view.

And for the art:

Some of my favorite artists are:  Frank Frazetta, Boris Vallejo, the Hildebrandt brothers, Brian Froud, Arthur Rackham, M. C. Escher, Gustave Doré, Rembrandt, Da Vinci, Dali, and so many I can't possibly list them all!

For me, art has always been therapeutic. After having a really rough day there's nothing better than being able to relax by putting pencil or pen to paper and see what pops up. Sometimes the paper tells me what I should be doing, and those are some of my best efforts. My favorite topic is fantasy, especially dragons -- even though I started out many years ago inking birds of prey. My favorite medium is pen and ink (Rapidograph), in a technical form called pointillism (or stippling). Pointalism, the precise placement of thousands of small points of ink, is extremely time consuming, sometimes hundreds of hours. But when executed correctly,  wonderful textures and depth can be achieved. Mixing Prismacolor colored pencil with pen & ink gives my work a different depth.

Most recently I've been experimenting with colored inks in pointalist pieces (Forest Dragon, for example). This seems to combine my love of pen and ink with color. I look forward to creating many new pieces!

Also, I've rekindled my interest in digital art. Working in a digital medium is awesome in that if you make a mistake you don't have to throw the whole thing away and start over - there's the fabulous UNDO feature! Plus you get the added depth and detail virtually instantly that would take HOURS to achieve by hand.

My work has been published twice in a national magazine and has been featured in multiple local art shows and festivals.

Check out the links above for some extraordinary artists and a great place for artist supplies!
